They say “where there is livestock, there is deadstock.”
With the almost regular bi-weekly mountain lion attacks, this saying has been ever present in my mind. The weaner that received severe lacerations to his back right leg during the last attack wasn’t looking great a week ago. See The Landlord, the Lion, and the Lame Piglet. But he has steadily been improving. He’s still with the herd; he eats; he drinks; and is putting more weight on his leg every day. I can’t say that he is in the clear, but hopefully he is turning the corner.
Unfortunately, what should have been an enjoyable drive to the creek in the side-by-side with the kids turned tragic. While exiting the yard the dogs scared up the chickens. Red, our favorite hen, zigged when she should have zagged. Fortunately, we have 16 week old chicks in the brooder now. One of them better be as nice as Red was.
