Tassels’ Third Litter

Tassels Piglets

Tassels gave birth to her third litter of piglets.

Unfortunately, Tassels nested the night before and I wasn’t able to find her in the dark while I was doing morning chores. By the time I returned from a morning meeting Tassels was passing her afterbirth. She farrowed nine piglets, but one was stillborn and two died when they fell out of the nest and weren’t able to get back in to the nest.

I also found one piglet that was still covered in their birthing sac. I pulled her out of the membrane and got her breathing, but she obviously was not very strong.

Unfortunately, she and two more of her sibling didn’t make it and were crushed by Tassels the first night.

As of this writing, on Nov. 12, there are three remaining piglets doing extremely well.
