Outdoor School was the highlight of middle school when I was growing up in Oregon. For a week you would ditch the classroom and head for the woods to learn about God’s creation in God’s creation.
Of course, it was public school in Oregon, so there was no mention of God.
If you grew up in Oregon and experienced outdoor school in the ’80s or ’90s, you understand what I mean when I state:
Native Oregonians lick slugs.
Of course there’s more to outdoor school than just licking slugs. Yesterday we also made a fishing pole, string, and hook with nothing more than a knife and some plants; we identified and named nearly two dozen species of plants, flowers, and trees; and found two mating harpaphe haydeniana (black millipede with yellow spots).
The dogs also got in on the action by finding things in the woods . . .
Sasquatch Wallows Outdoor School occurs almost every Monday. To get updates on upcoming classes just text BACON to (844) 721-1271, follow us on BAND, or just regularly check the website.
